strong prison wives

My name is Shayla. I have been blessed with two beautiful children. I’ve know my husband since i was 14. I’ll be 25 in August. We were together for a year n ah half back then and now together 4 married 3(in August).I would say my most challenging part was giving birth to our son without my husband by my side. And doing the whole mommy thing with a toddler and a newborn. My kids definitely keep me on my toes so that makes my days go by pretty fast lol. If it’s not one thing…best believe it’s gonna be something else. I’ve been thru alot with the hubby . It’s takes a strong understanding willing and wise woman/ mother to hold things down. I’m reminded daily tho of how good I’m doing by friends n family. That’s helps also.

SPW Song of the Week – “Hey Baby,” By: Stephen Marley featuring Mos Def

prison wife song of the week

There are so many reasons to absolutely love this song, I can’t pick just one. I never heard it before this week’s SOTW nomination (thank you, Ms. Joyce <3) but the minute I turned it on, I absolutely fell in love. My favorite part? “Hey baby don’t you worry, even though the road is rocky I’ll be coming home to you again.” Do you like this week’s SPW Song of The Week? What is your favorite part? …xo, Ro ♩ ♪ ♫ ♬ ♭ ♮ ♯

Stephen Marley, Featuring Mos Def – “Hey Baby” Lyrics

prison wife song of the week[Verse 1: Stephen Marley]

I’ve been gone awhile away from you when I hope you overstand
That I got to do what I must do to be a better man
Cause if I was just to act a fool do nothing for myself
Then all my blessings would be cursed my world would be crumbling
It’s a joy when I siiiit down and think cause of the good things that we have
And what we do to make it through when the good turns into bad
Well I hope you find it in your heart and know these words are true
And please don’t fuss because I mist go do what I must do[Chorus: Stephen Marley]
Hey baby don’t you worry, even though the road is rocky
I’ll be coming home to you again
And if you thought that I was lost, I have to bury my cross
Now I’m free from all these chains
[Verse 2: Stephen Marley]
A time and space a different place a perfect we might be
I would be the wind that blows you be that widow tree
And I could never bail and thought of you not by my side
So I would be the one to tell you be the cool of night
And everyday I pray to Jah that one day you will see
And overstand the fact I must fulfill my destiny
I hope you find it in your heart and know these words are true
And please don’t cry you know I must do what I must do

[Chorus: Stephen Marley]
Hey baby don’t you worry, even though the road is rocky
I’ll be coming home to you again
And if you thought that I was lost, I have to bury my cross
Now I’m free from all these chains

[Bridge: Stephen Marley (Mos Def)]
Well then it’s not easy, Jah knows I have tried I tried
So don’t you get weary (Oh God) Jah knows I tried

[Verse 3: Mos Def]
And God knows, that life is one big road
With alot of signs and turns and twist and curves
Even though the road is rocky
But maintain to ride and keep on rockin
From, city to city backyard to yard
And we, be seein the cites standin under the lights
And the spot is hot it’s cold and lonely at nights
And I’m feenin and I’m dreamin and I’m holdin you tight
But hold on, every single road I rode on
Come to an end and I’m back home again
So baby please don’t cry
Cause nobody knows and it’s no bye bye bye
And our love don’t die with the passin of time
It just grow more, it just keep strong
And even though I’m gone I ain’t movin too far
Your the light through the dark shinnin right through my heart
So my journey just start

[Chorus: Stephen Marley]
Hey baby don’t you worry, even though the road is rocky
I’ll be coming home to you again
And if you thought that I was lost, I have to bury my cross
Now I’m free from all these chains

[Outro: Stephen Marley]
And if you thought that I was lost, I have to bury my cross
Now I’m free from all these chains

I think where I find strength from this song is as a prison wife our lives are filled with “sweet nothings” but those “nothings” are what brighten our days. A scribbly love letter, an amazing drawing with both of your names in it, a poem that doesnt really rhyme but it makes perfect sence for you and it took him a week to write it. Those “nothings” play a huge role in our relationships. A sweet nothing to one person is everything to another.

“So I put my faith in something unknown…I’m living on such sweet nothing…” That line is so perfect for an SPW…we live in the unknown and at any given moment, something within our lives can change dramatically. Yet we hold onto our “sweet nothing” with all of our might because its all we’ve got….because of our undying love for our other halves. xo, Ro

“So I put my faith in something unknown,
I’ve been living on such sweet nothing,
But I’m trying to hope with nothing to hold,
I’m living on such sweet nothing.
    And it’s hard to learn,
    And it’s hard to love,
When you’re giving me such sweet nothing,”
that is my favorite part of this song. It tells the truth of a prison wife’s life. We keep faith in our relationships everyday without having anything to hold on to but hope. It can be hard at times, its definatly not a life for the weak.

I love this weeks song of the week- Just Give Me a reason – The chorus of the song hits home the most to me. Before my fiance went into to prison our relationship was far from perfect but we have always had this bond that no one or nothing can break. So Therfore these words make perfect sense to me and my love!
    “Just give me a reason,
    Just a little bit’s enough
Just a second, we’re not broken
Just bent we can learn to LOVE again.
    Oh, I never stopped
It’s still written in the scars on my heart
    You’re NOT broken
Just bent and we can learn to love again”
