Whats in a Strong Prison Wives Suitcase?

Adam calls the enormous piece of luggage I travel with to visit, my “trunk on wheels.” While defending my barely-able-to-be-zippered travel companion, I remind him about the cop at the penitentiary who didn’t like us. Who, as soon as I saw was working the front desk, would raise my blood pressure instantaneously. What I was wearing was never “acceptable” on the first try. I learned to travel with backup outfits…and backup for those backups. From hair accessories all the way down to shoes, I’d carry a car full of spares. I’ll never forget my first encounter with this cop. Talking to his fellow officer while looking directly into my eyes, he said in the most obnoxiously, sarcastic voice, “Hah, looks like Clausen isn’t getting a visit today.” Every ounce of my being fought to not spit back, “Wanna bet?!” Instead, I just let him know I had spare clothing in the car, went outside and changed. Over my dead body ‘Clausen’ wasn’t getting a visit that day!

So, that’s partly the reason I lug around so much stuff. Or at least its just my really good excuse!

The other part is that I am an out-of-the-closet product junkie. From makeup and hair products to shower stuff and body lotions, I use and travel with it all. What started out as a video about “What’s in a Prison Wife’s Suitcase?” quickly turned into product reviews. It took a different turn than what I had originally intended but it was still a whole lot of fun to make.

Words can’t even express how much I wish ‘Clausen’ was able watch this one with the rest of us prison wives; I’m not sure if he’d laugh or cringe. When it comes to matters pertaining to my crazy ways, I can almost guarantee he’d laugh his big, infectious, deep, belly laugh. The one where he throws back his head, grabs his gut and scrunches up his face from laughing so hard. How I miss that laugh.

Please let me know what you think, if you try anything and how it works. Also, we’d love to see how other Strong Prison Wives travel when you go to visit your inmate. Are you a light packer or do you travel with half your house like me? Do you ever have issues with what you are wearing when you arrive? Have you ever been turned away? Why? What did you do? I KNOW we are an army full of “war stories.” Comment below and let us know! Sometimes its fun to “bitch it out” and to compare notes!

Oh I definitely pack half my house when I go to visit my inmate husband!! I’m a serious product junkie. And I never know what I’m going to want to wear for visits so I just take my entire closet and also backups for my backups. I’ve never been turned away from visit, but I have had to change a few times. One of my fist visits, when I was new to it all, I did not have a back up with me, and I had to borrow a shirt from on older (rather large) gentleman. Not the most flattering outfit for my husband to see me in! Anyways so now I have a few extra t-shirts that I keep in my car in case any of the other ladies run into the same problem and need a shirt. It’s come in handy a few times!

Thank you for making me feel more “normal” Jene! :-) I remember once, my cousin was about to get turned away when she suddenly remembered she had an old, ratty tee shirt in the car. They made her turn it around (because it was V-neck) and wear it inside out (bc it had a logo or writing on it). < - Gotta love MDC Brooklyn! She said the same thing to her boyfriend; that she felt like a moron and smelled like stale, gasoline from the trunk. His response: Do you see me? heehee. WE are so hard on ourselves to look perfect but they never care what we are wearing. They wear the same thing for every date. ;-)

I way over pack also I have at least 3 outfits per visit day and the institute he is in isnot really that strict with the dresscode as long as u dont show up in anything to short or see thru and your shirt has sleeves or a tank with a cover shirt your good. But I am always scared the one day I dont prepare is the day I will run into a different officer that gives me a problem. Plus I bring extra earings all my soaps and lotions, and bandaids, 6 pair of underwear for an overnight trip, lol a bunch of stuff i never need but hust in case!
